The Fifth International Rotifer Symposium was held in Gargnano, Italy from 11-18 September, 1988, hosted by the Milan University. This meeting continued the tradition of holding triennial rotifer symposia.
As in previous symposia, some research topics were identified in advance of the meeting as being in need of special attention. The papers are presented as follows:

Part Three: Physiology.
Part Four: Genetics.
Part Five: Aquaculture.
