内容简介:

Introducing you to Joshua Jenks would perhaps be like introducing you to any other poor colored boy of that era. But maybe Josh was not like any other colored boy. Josh was somewhat luckier than his friends; although poor, his ma and pa had gained employment with a rich, white family who saw beyond their color, treating them as equals. Sam McLeod and his wife longed for a son to take over the family business, but this was not to be so. The day Josh was born, Mrs. McLeod gave birth to a daughter who was to play a big part in Joshas life. As Josh grew, it became apparent that he and the McLeodsa daughter would become inseparable, and Josh was to become the son Sam always wanted. The day Sam mentioned the vacant job of senator, Josh laughed so much he wondered whether Sam was joking when he said Josh should stand for the post. But to Joshas surprise, with Samas money, he became senator for Memphis. Upon his entrance to the Senate, Josh was confronted with some hostility, but this was soon to take a back seat as terrorism spread like a cancer around the world.
