A Summer of Happiness is a romance novel written around the life of a young woman, Adriana Wilson. Adriana is a strikingly beautiful woman who was born in Miami, Florida. While studying in Miami, Adriana finds herself unable to stop her car during an unmerciful storm, causing an accident. The man she runs her car into is a young medical student, Andres Duarte, from Peru. His dark black hair and green eyes make him irresistibly handsome. The two of them soon fall in love and have a passionate affair. Adriana's father opposes their relationship. One evening Andres receives a call from his mother to tell him his father is dying. Confused and in a hurry, he books himself on the next flight departing to Lima. Andres does not have time to call his lover, Adriana. Andres asks his friend Armando Grisales to call her and explain what happened. She never receives the call. Armando is very sexually attracted to Adriana and only tells her that Andres returned to his home with no explanation. Adriana feels betrayed and puzzled. Since she is not able to share her newly discovered news, she is suddenly drowning in sorrow. She is pregnant, and she must take the responsibility alone. Andres is not aware that he is a father.
