Angela was fourteen and on the junior basketball team, although she rarely got in the game because of her poor playing ability. When she did get to play, she suffered several humiliating experiences, which, in turn, made her determined to better herself as a basketball player. She asks for help from a retired basketball coach, who agrees to help her after she promises to follow his instructions to the letter. After many months of training under the coach and many hours of practice, she becomes a competent player. Each year she gets better and better. She finally, as a senior in high school, reaches her goal. She graduates first in her class and receives a full basketball scholarship to Louisiana State University.
