This work addresses the issue of control of design in town and country and proposes a new way forward by outlining the direction of future planning policy. The book examines the means by which control of design is exercised, the forms of policy statement that are used and the means by which they can be improved. Existing operations are viewed critically, from a broad perspective and new approaches are explored. A new concept, the design area, is proposed in place of uniform land use zones.
