This book examines definitions of lexical ambiguity and presents a re-definition through a semantic-pragmatic approach. It analyses the use of ambiguous words in poetry, in particular through the use of examples from the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins. It also discusses the value of lexical ambiguity by showing how ambiguous words are related to ambiguity in poems as a whole.
