"This new fully annotated anthology collects together five fifteenth century Middle English poems, all of which present themselves in the form of dreams, and discusses their appeal, their common features, and the claims by which they associate themselves with other texts. The poems are arranged chronologically and demonstrate some of the ways in which the conventions of love vision could accommodate discourses of other kinds. The author begins her analysis with Lydgate's, "Temple of Glass" and the anonymous "Assembly of Ladies" which foreground women's voices and the possible grievances of women in love. Next is "The Kingis Quair" of James I of Scotland and the dream sequence" Love's Renewal" from the English poems of Charles of Orleans. She finally looks at Skelton's, " Bowge of Court" which adapts the framework of the love vision to expose the self-seeking and insecurity which a court environment can nurture.
