Maria A. Delgado was born in Dallas, Texas, in 1982, daughter of Maria F. Garcia and Trinidad Delgado. She grew up reading simple books such as Romeo and Juliet, but her love for poetry came after her stepfather passed away on September 19, 1998. At age 15 she entered a relationship which took her to be the next victim of domestic violence. She started writing poetry at age 16 after feeling hopeless when her stepfather passed. Today she is a proud mother of an 8-year-old girl and an administrative assistant at the high school where she graduated (H. Grady Spruce High School). After graduating from high school, she spent two years taking home college courses through Education Direct and earned an associateas degree in criminal justice. Now at age 23, she is a proud mother of her daughter, Alma M. Delgado, and seeks to be a famous poet someday. She is an award winner for the 2004 and 2005 Editoras Choice Award for Outstanding Achievement in poetry, poetry.com. Besides writing poetry and going to work, she loves spending time with her family and reading books to her daughter. She finds it relaxing listening to music in the dark.
