This is a story about an eight-year-old boy named David. He prays to catch a blue racer, one of the fastest snakes alive. When he goes camping with his dad, he actually does catch one. With great disappointment, the snake disappears. David prays for his return. After David returns home, his prayer gets answered again. Blue, the snake, surprisingly reappears. Davidas parents agree to let David keep Blue as his very own pet, but they make it clear that itas up to David to take care of him. Davidas dad instructs him to do research on the snake, so he can take good care of him. David bonds with Blue. He feeds him. He gently pets him and talks to him. David loves Blue, but he realizes that Blue will only truly be the happiest if heas released back to his natural habitat.
