内容简介:

A small, southern town in rural Georgia is the locale for the events of this story. It is the pre-civil-rights era, circa 1960. An alcoholic racist, Caleb Martin, scarred by a wound to the face during WWII, a fair-minded sheriff, Sam Bosley, and a voodoo shaman, Brother Bocor, are the characters involved in this suspenseful, fast-paced thriller. Because of the time and place of the setting, Sheriff Sam Bosley is aware that convicting a white man in a crime against a black man is almost impossible. When he discovers the remains of a black youngster on the Georgia Central Railroad tracks and deduces that the death was the result of a poorly planned homicide, he begins to track down the killer. Clues build and Bosley is closing in on Martin. But the resourceful Martin kills again and escapes only to meet his end in an exciting and ironic manner.
