An author living in Massachusetts, I first got the Rhyme Opera concept in an institution. It's been a blessing; since then I've written 18 of them. A Rhyme Opera is a series of poems on one theme or subject. I wrote my first ones while institutionalized. I never agreed I was crazy; I was just part of the revolving door of psychiatry. One very funny Rhyme Opera, Crazy, was written during a more recent hospitalization. I hope to bring a new voice to poetry. The long play-like or story-like aspects of the Rhyme Operas are reminiscent of Shakespeare's play-length techniques. The first Rhyme Opera was written in 2000 and I was blown away by the concept and content as they succeeded to roll off my pen in intelligent, intellectual ink. I favor writing in snowstorms as the six-sided flakes remind me of beehive clusters. I see this form as a natural connection of thought-the puzzle-like fittings of the comb-as I fit and weave together ideas that are complex in exploring puzzling issues with uncanny clarity. The Rhyme Operas were originally intended to be musical works and hopefully will be soon. I have a five-octave voice and play guitar, trumpet, bass and harmonica. The Rhyme Operas are, to me, like work Andrew Lloyd Webber would compose.
