The story opens with the driveby shooting death of Jean Wilson and her son as they are arriving home from a shopping trip. Ten years later, a witness to the murder is discovered who provides Lt. Leo Harris, LAPD, with the evidence he needs to link a longtime drug dealer Nicholas Jefferson to the murder. Nicholas Jefferson is a longtime aperson of interesta to the police. He has been suspected of numerous murders but has always been able to evade prosecution. Lt. Leo Harrisa investigation is stymied by a series of murders which remove his witnesses. Harris is forced to use an imprisoned colleague of Jeffersonas to aid his investigation. Unknown to Harris, Ernie Munroe, Jean Wilsonas surviving son, develops a risky plan to avenge his motheras murder. The plan places Ernieas life at riskaas well as Lt. Harrisa career.
