Pierce Black, a stereotypical, heartless cold-blooded murderer, is on the loose. Pedro Luan, the worst possible man-monster, is slashing and killing innocent women. A band of nightriders are destroying the crops, livestock and buildings of innocent ranchers. They get orders from a mysterious unknown who calls himself "Ben." Sylvia, the teen-aged sister, strives to be respected as much as the men in her family are. There is also a young town marshal, Nick Fain, who is smart, but untested. This is the story of each, and how they live and love and fight against the evil forces that surround them.
