I first became acquainted with the work of Don and Jeanne Siegel in the early fall of 2000 at a meeting of The New York Poetry Forum in mid-Manhattan. I can still recall my pleasure in reading through the first Volumes-Feathers and Reminisce as we had exchanged books of ours. I was immediately struck by the Siegels' control and self-discipline through stanzas in an age of formless free verse. Don and Jeanne are prolific writers, having published five books of poetry. Each, in their own way, demonstrates their perfecting pursuit of "Pegasus." Also, in terms of Greek theory, this team fulfills the dual role of the poet as "seer" and "maker." They are mainly "seers" in their many poems on the horror of the Holocaust. And they are "makers" in their monitoring use of stanzas with apt breathing pauses to punctuate their felt thought.
