Rory MacLean is a fourteen-year-old boy who lives with his mom, dad, and three sisters on Cainas Mountain in rural Cape Breton Island in the 1800s. Life in Cape Breton is hard, but good. Unfortunately, Roryas dad has fallen ill, and Rory must undertake a dangerous journey with only his trusty dog in order to obtain medicine for his dad. It is three daysa journey through the mountains to the store where he will get the medicine. The adventures and trials that he must face and overcome combine to make him into a strong and determined young man. This is a story of the coming-of-age of a young man as he overcomes formidable odds.
