The summer of 1941 held many good things for Ned Brewster, one of three children sired by John and Jennifer Brewster. Ned, just out of high school, was to marry his soul mate, Kim, in the fall. John Brewster wanted Ned to join the family business, as his brother and sister had done. Ned wanted only to be able to play his music and make a comfortable living for him and his new wife. To avoid this awkward situation, Ned joined the Marine Corps and reported to basic training shortly after his marriage to Kim. His desire was to see the world and use the service benefits to get a college education as well as play his beloved trumpet in his spare time. Things would turn out differently for the young couple, due to the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Ned was shipped off to Pearl Harbor to fight the Japanese and Kim joined the Army Nurses Corps to do her part in the war effort. The events of World War II that would follow put Ned and Kim in harms way and changed their lives forever.
