内容简介:
The Irish telescope-making firm of Thomas and Howard Grubb, father and son, was in operation during much of the nineteenth century through to 1925. The Grubbs were right at the forefront of telescope manufacture in the UK and on two occasions held the record for the highest refractor in existence. Many of the original Grubb instruments are still frequently in use although to date, the history and work of the Grubbs has not been publicly accessible. Now, for the first time, a biography of this important enterprise is being made available. By the inclusion of extensive collections of their private and public correspondence with many institutions and individuals around the world Dr Ian Glass has allowed the Grubbs to speak for themselves through their letters.
