In the basement laboratory of an aquarium, Peter fills his notebook with memories of Helen and slowly connects Helen's death to her family history and political passions. This haunting, sensual long poem artfully captures the painted caves of France where Helen's mother is born, the banks of the Seine where her parents meet, the foster home in Illinois where Helen is brought up, and the university building she inhabits when she becomes obsessed with the televised events of the Gulf War.
