Amusing Ourselves to Death

排除作者当时的局限(比如对计算机的不屑 or am I talking under the influence of the internet/information age already?)
这本书的文字有着那个时代的特点,kinda similarly verbose to "how to read a book", and has a quaint feeling to it. It's not a relaxing read, but it gives one a peculiar sense of enjoyment when reading it with classic music playing (yikes, entertainment again!) with warm fire in the winter time...but I digress.
Yes, we lose some, and we gain some。
比如Carr说的eReader比如kindle offers too many distractions to read a book in its entirety. 用熟悉了之后我不觉得每个人都会去flip this and that。Actually one advantage Kindle has over the other fancy tech stuff is its simplicity and difficulty in accessing web/games and other distractions.
Before the internet it would be hard to find a book that suits one's taste, and one's "consumption" of books largely depends on what others consume. There a '"mass media" effect.
Nowadays, well the mass is still there yet we are increasingly allow to delve more and more into one's very own niche.
惭愧的说我本人使劲读书时间的时间才不到两年,but I was able to search and find a lot of good books that gave me deeper contemplation as well as enjoyment. 如果愿意,人还是可以,有能力cut out distractions and focus on the "now", the current task at hand, as long as one really wants to.
TV age and then the later internet age Inferior. Each generation has their own unique features.
Embrace change with grace. Retain what we hold as essential to our being and existence. And enjoy the ride. Seriously.
