This book is a physical recapture of an online Tencent charity programme that showcases the trying lives of the grassroots inside and outside China, including those of the Beijing or American dream pursuers, the berieved parents of a single child, the left-at-home children, and the city migrant, people with unusal diseases, which are extremely touching, for their difficulties and courage in dealing with difficulties, and inspiring, to many that frequently fall unsatisfied about their nothing-spectacular daily life. With the pictures embroied by the characters, or the characters vividened by pictures, every story seems like a short film or narration. It is hard to name 'the most' something, for every story is so unique, at least, in the collection, full of beauty and humanity.
It is great to have come across this book which I, at the first glance, mistook as homonious novel of Yu Hua; at a time when I fell into depression for my own life. The book has broaden my horizon and improved my mind.
On turning the final page of the book, I realised the most important thing was not just to seek an easy life and indulge in reading, but do something realistic and pragmatic -- be a life practitioner and change maker. As I am much previledged than those people, why should I be less courageous in shouldering the reponsibility of just taking care of myself and only safeguarding my idea? And how can I be still complaining that I am too disadvantaged, stay in peace while so many are struggling, remain pessimistive and reactive while so many less fortunate are postive and proactive? Great lessons on life have been drawn from this short collection glistening the light of humanity.
