Fashion and women identity

I like this book, it is not a shallow fashion writing boasting how great designers brands are. It is thoughtful and will make you think too.

The book tells the relationship between women and their clothes, bags, shoes; and how those items build up their identity.
The book tells you you need to dress above your statues, then you will reach that level. (So girls in China, give up taoboo shopping, please).

The metaphor of little mermaid appears in the book repeatedly. Yes, the author was talking about women's relationship with their shoes. "The mermaid's tragedy speaks volumes to me of these irreconcilable aspects of being female, our desire to give up a weightless freedom in exchange for the soul-enriching manacles of romantic life. We cannot accept that we continue to exist in our own element, governed by its own rules. We willingly walk on sharp knives. I wish I could see a way out. I can't"

The most touching part is this woman, Catherine Hill. She is a survivor from German Camp. She was sent to the Camp as a teenager, her mother sent to gas room the same day they arrived. Her father died in the camp. She went to Italy then Canada as a refugee after the war. She became a house wife then a single mother. She entered her career after the divorce. She became a fashion buyer and started up her own shops in North America by introducing European designers to North Americans.

She said: You know, happiness is so fleeting. The moments that you have the highs, at the peak of the mountain, it's so wonderful. I guess I am blessed because I know the difference. Still, I am amazed that I was able to come from the ashes, And there is still my hope and my idealism. I feel confident that I'm going to live a long time. I feel I have a young soul."
