内容简介:
Fort House, at the corner of 4th and Webster, in Waco, Texas stands as a testament to the efficacy and endurance of the pioneers who settled this wild west. Though Wacoas beginnings were untamed, it became, for its time, quite a cosmopolitan Mecca that brought people of all personalities, trades and nationalities to settle here. Many came to make a life but found their lifeas purpose instead. They had no idea they were making history every day and leaving a legacy for the centuries to come. One of those hardy pioneers was William Fort, who was instrumental in establishing businesses that are still successful today. The paths the settlers followed are still evident today in Wacoas culture and citizens. Though many tragic occurrences brought the limelight to Waco, this city offers many opportunities for renaissance for whomever comes here. The authoress discovered her love of history while living in Europe and that interest continued when she moved to Waco to make it her home. Training as a Fort House Docent gave birth to this book. She soon realized that the pioneer spirit of thrift, utilitarianism, faith and success at the cost of life, still remained in Waco culture. She has also written several historical nonfiction one-act plays. She enjoys teaching history, writing, giving tours, and public speaking.
