James Gary Grant was born on January 8, 1937, in Etowah, Tennessee. He graduated from Etowah High School in May of 1955. Immediately, he joined the U.S.M.C. and traveled to many different countries, Vietnam being one of them. He spent forty-two years in the military; fourteen in U.S.M.C. and twenty-eight in the Army. He retired in 1997. This poetry is influenced by God, country and family.
