Josie was born in Mission, Texas, where she attended Our Lady of Guadalupe School for nine years. Josie wanted to be a writer ever since she was 11 or12 years old. Instead she became a victim of sexual abuse by a relative. Later she became a teenage mother and then a wife to a life of domestic abuse. She has two children, Joe and Claudia, who live in San Antonio as she does. This poetry reflects her life of abuse and is very powerful and explicit. At 43 years old, she has finally begun the road to healing.
