The Line of Mothers is the story of Fen, a princess of the Pict people and the last in the line of mothers. This story tells of the tumultuous times of the eighth century when the Pict people ruled the lands but were succumbing to increased attacks by the Scots and the Vikings. To form an alliance between their people and provide a united force against the Vikings, Fen is married to the son of a Scottish ruler. This gives her son the birthright to rule both peoples, but first both he and his mother must face unforeseen forces that are working against them and their fight for unity.
