I have been writing poetry since I was 19. I am now 29. I was born on September 2, 1976. When I was 18 I was hospitalized and diagnosed with a mental illness, schizophrenia. Around that time I started writing poetry. My poetry is about love, hate, paranoia, hallucinations, delusions, emotions, and thoughts of insanity. Mental illness affects my relationships and how I socialize with people I know and meet. It will affect me for the rest of my life. I will always need treatment and help. I will always have to take some sort of medication for my symptoms. Since I was first diagnosed, I have been admitted to hospital psychiatric wards five to six times. The illness affects my emotions and thoughts, which I will never have complete control of. When I was 19, I was able to articulate my experiences with my thoughts and emotions into poetry and its effects on me for the way I view people, the world, my reality, and the fact that I will always be mentally ill.
