In aGoodbye, a a young woman is faced with the departure of a loved one off to war, and in aAs I Have Loved You, a Sarah finds the courage to show compassion. aCoffeea centers around a humorous encounter between two pickets of opposing armies and is written through the eyes of a young boy, hardly old enough to be a soldier. aMine Eyes Have Seena introduces characters that reappear in aHome, a and the phenomenon of soldieras heart is explored. aTheir Last Full Measurea jumps from present to past and back again; and Confederate deserters return home to joy and sorrow in a1864a and aJacobas Ladder.a Finally, the last three stories are based on my own reenacting experiences.
