I was born in 1949 in Charleston, South Carolina, and named Sharon Ruth Hall; "Ruth" after my dear grandmother. I met Jesus when I was nine and He helped me get through a rocky childhood. In junior high school, I developed a serious passion for writing. I joined the writing club, Les Arts, and began using my pen name, Emily Sorensen. Being shy, I found it easier to let her say all the things I wanted to but couldn't. Some of my poems were printed in the school magazine. Later, some were even published in the local newspaper. I liked the feeling of satisfaction and pride it gave me to see my words in print.
