I was born in Norway, Michigan, growing up all over the Midwest. I graduated from Duluth East High School in 1971 and joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a hospital corpsman. I was married in 1977, and have two grown children; I currently live in Mason City, Iowa. I obtained a degree in nursing before being diagnosed with leukemia in 1989 and receiving a bone marrow transplant in 1990. From there, you will learn about other complications including a sudden cardiac arrest. My story is about cancer survival and how having a life-threatening illness is handled through a great sense of laughter, using one of my mottos: aLaughter gives seriousness a break.a
