When was the last time that you were at an interscholastic athletic event for your child, grandchild or neighbor? Did you ever notice the men and women in the striped shirts at the football, basketball or volleyball games? What about the ones in the pale blue shirts at the baseball or softball games? Or did you just notice them when a call went against your sonas or daughteras team, or worse yet, your child specifically? Why do they give up their evenings and weekends year after year for little money and a lot of abuse? This is one lighthearted story of a football official who over twenty years managed to stay loose and not take himself too seriously, tried to be fair and went out there week after week with four of his best buddies and had a great time each night. Without him and thousands of other men and women like him, there would be no high school sports.
