When tragedy besets Lachlan at a young age, he is forced to live in a foreign land as a slave to Latimer. He expects to be treated horribly, but much to his surprise, Latimer takes him in as a surrogate son. Lachlan is educated by him in many ways, and in time, Latimer gives him a rusty sword that turns out to be a magical saber. After many years pass, a series of unexpected events occur, and the mystery behind the sword becomes even greater.
