内容简介:
This is the story of Matthew Glass and his struggle to recover from the devastating loss of his wife and young daughter in an auto accident, in which he alone survived. After a year of psychotherapy, he resigns from his prestigious university position to live in an isolated cabin on a border lake in northeast Maine. But instead of finding the peace and healing he is searching for, a series of disruptions develop, starting from the very first day spent in his retreat. Are these incidents simply coincidences, as his former colleague and the local sheriff claim, or are they really expressions of paranoia, not unusual for those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, as his psychiatrist had warned? His decision to directly confront the events that appear to him to be real and designed to do him harm leads to actions that nearly cost him, as well as his colleague, their very lives, and pits him against an evil that extends far beyond the picturesque and serene Maine lake and mountains.
