This is the story about the robbery of a knitting mill. This event took place in 1972 in the small town of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The main character in the story is Annie Roberts. At the time of the robbery, Annie is twenty, very young, naive, married and a participant in the crime. During the robbery, one of the robbers hands Annie some money. Annie promptly turns it in to police. The story then follows Annie's life over a period of five years, until the statute of limitations is up for the crime. A lot happens in Annie's life over the five years. All the while, Annie keeps in contact with the lead detective on the case, Detective Jameson. Finally, one day in the summer of 1977, Annie gets the long-awaited telephone call....
