Fredas collection of short stories is his remembrances of growing up in Verplanck, a small community on the banks of the Hudson River. The people in Fredas stories are his family and long-time friends. He takes the reader on a trip that begins in his grandmotheras attic when he was five, to his attempt at becoming a major league pitcher in the New York Giants organization at the age of eighteen. In between, there are eighteen stories that include a family Sunday automobile ride, sandlot baseball, the Indian Point Amusement Park, visiting Sing Sing Prison, attending Saint Patrickas School, being an altar boy, sleigh riding on Crow Hill, and hanging out at Bunkas ice cream parlor.
