内容简介:
After completing school, Sebatu is forced by her father, Pa Kposowa, to marry Joe Bangalie, a business tycoon, breaking the heart of John Kamara, her long-time teacher boyfriend, thereby failing to keep the coconut bond. John Kamara leaves the shores of the country and returns as a wealthy, erudite man. Through the life of Sebatu, Sylvester Lamin represents in The Coconut Bond the life of many women born in the bosom of a polygamous family in Sierra Leone, for whom the possibility to decide their own marital life, maintaining at the same time the acceptance and respect of the family and community, is unthinkable. As the novel unfolds, the innate corruption by the governments after independence is brought to light, thus failing to keep their promises made to the electorate.
