A strong wind across the ocean kicked up, and Shana heard windows slamming outside her bedroom. Startled, she moved to close them when she heard a creaking sound on the wood balcony outside and saw a shadow through the white curtains briskly pass by the window - just as a tree branch smacked the roof of the house. Frightened, she ran to her bed. It's probably just a cat, she told herself. She snuggled up alongside Lilly, who was sleeping very soundly. She had just started to doze off when she heard a book being knocked from its shelf and other disturbing noises downstairs. Someone had entered her home. She crept softly toward the door and peeped out, looking down below the railing toward the darkened living room and foyer.
