Rework中那些闪闪发光的英文表达

每次写一些里面有很多条建议的书的书评,都不知道该从何入手,试过只抽一条来写,也试过把很多条融合在一个虚构的故事中的写法。大家有什么好建议么?

下面这么多条,我最爱Want it bad enough.性痴则志凝。你呢?

1. Live it or leave it?
Live it!
为XX而生,比如爱。

2. Fail early and fail often. Success matters.
早失败,多失败?不是的,成功才是重要的。失败只是告诉你什么不应该做的,只有成功过,你才知道什么是做对了的。

3. Find a judo solution, one that delivers maximum efficiency with minimum effort.
很喜欢judo solution的说法——用最小的力达成最好的效果。

4. Let me do the research and get back to you.
这句的中文非常常用,可是英文怎么说,你知道么?

5. Want it bad enough.
“性痴则志凝。故书痴者文必工,艺痴者技必良,世之落拓而无成者,皆自谓不痴也。”
想一样东西想疯了。要足够的疯狂才能做成某事。

6. Draw a line in the sand.
在沙滩上画一条线。 原来是这样表达的呀…

7. We close when the bread runs out.
面包卖完了,我们就关门。 所有霸气的店都可以用的句式!

8. You know those overnight-success stories you’ve heard about? It’s not the whole story.
over-night success一夜成名 It’s not the whole story.这并非事实的全部

9. People ask, “How big is your company?” It is small talk, but they’re not looking for a small answer. ”Wow, nice!” they’ll say if you have a hundred-plus employees. If you’re small, you’ll get an “OH… that’s nice.” The former is meant as a compliment; the latter is said just to be polite.
对比写法。the former VS the latter的用法举例。

10. Solve your own problem. Scratch your own itch.
一些人会从自己遇到的问题着手,为其开发一项产品,即为自己抓痒。

11. If you want something done, ask the busiest person you know.

12. Don’t use seven words when four will do.

17. The right way (to go) is the opposite direction: Cut back.
“采取相反的做法”的表达。

觉得第一句很顺口,所以摘录下来了。

19. Meetings are toxin. Meetings procreate. One meeting leads to another meeting leads to another.
从后文可以知道procreate的意思。

20. You are going to have to take it on a case-by-case basis.
具体问题具体分析analyze it on a case-by-case basis

21. Meeting rules
Set a timer. When it rings, meeting’s over.
Invite as few people as possible.
Always have a clear agenda.
Begin with a specific problem.
Meet at the site of the problem instead of a conference room.
Point to real things and suggest real changes.
End with a solution and make someone responsible for implementing it.
开会守则
要计时,铃一响,会议结束。
尽量请少些人与会。
会议流程要清晰。
从详细的问题入手。
如果可以就在问题发生的地方讨论,而不要选择会议室。
讨论指向实事且提出实质上的改变。
最后必须得出解决办法,以及安排人跟进。

想起了《十分爱》里枫说的Timing是很重要的。

23. If you’re successful, people will try to copy what you do. It’s just a fact of life.
It’s just a fact of life.与That’s life.有异曲同工之妙。

24. You’re not big enough to matter.
你还是nobody,没人会鸟你滴。

25. Maybe they’re just afraid of putting themselves on the line.
害怕把自己置身其中。
