One thing speech in TM meeting
2015-01-15
good evening everyone, have you ever been tired of your job? have you ever been stressful? have you ever found your results are bad if you paid a lot of efforts? OK the last question, have you ever figured out any solutions?
My answer is yes, i struggled for the transfer when stepping into the career. like some of you, swapped with meetings and follow-ups and feel weak. it is a turning point that my boss recommend a wonderful book and find a way out. "the one thing". OK, you get it clear, the topic "one thing" is not a story i wanna talk, but a idea or philosophy. not teaching/coaching, but wanna share or interpret on behalf of the author on what it is and how it impact my life.
The key concept of one thing is just one question we have we gatta ask ourselves. what is the one thing i can do such that by doing it everything else would be easier and unnecessary? it can be applied for every aspect of life. we all have many tasks for wok, family, relationship and sth like that. unfortunately, many would get most of them done, but not necessarily what mattered most. or the results are meet the expectation, not exceeds the expectation. cuz you know, resource/time/passion is limited, most of us are not born genius. if we wanna big picture, results suffered. frustration followed. Over time we lower our expectations and allow our life to get small. so let us start shorten our list. what if we can do just three things today? or two things? finally, we can be out of desperation, we go as small as i can do and asked, what is the one thing we can do today? the awesome thing will happen as the extraordinary results are directly determined by how narrow we can make our focus and carry our one thing to the extreme
The book also introduce several good approaches. firstly, find the great answer. what the one thing is? think big and specific. think possibility and benchmark. secondly, split your to-do list into two parts and try best to protect and ensure enough time slot for one thing.
I put it into practice today. i identified TM meeting speech as my one thing today. so i blocked whole morning to prepare by closing laptop and ignoring emails. this priority setting bring high productivity. although, there are still many tasks in to-do list, i have fulfilled the day.
great examples of one thing can be found in almost every great company or achievers. so let us ask ourselves, what is the one thing i can do by doing it everything else would be easier and unnecessary?
