实话说,《别独自用餐》(never eat alone)这本书是一位博览群书的朋友推荐给我的。
聊天中,我们常常谈到“平台”一词,认为大家的智商都差不多,也很难说谁努力谁偷懒,为什么有些人成功了有些人却永远一副不在状态的样子,是不是所在的平台不同造就了大家面临的机会不均等呢?我们一直心安理得地以为自己是怀才不遇的卞和,总有一天慧眼识珠的人会知道我们的能量,我们的抱负…可是,如果这一天迟迟不来,你怎么办?是出走,寻找下一个平台?还是继续等待未来某一天的一鸣惊人?
《别独自用餐》这本书给你的答案是:从现在开始,确认自己的目标,打造属于自己的个人品牌,然后搭建自己的平台,根据自己的个性和特点,建立自己的圈子,并不断提升自己的社交圈,实现自己的职业发展。
哇,乍一看,这些话好假好空好大,几乎所有的人脉书都在重复这些陈芝麻烂谷子的东东西西。可是作者法拉奇通过他的真实经历,用一个一个小故事作为案例,介绍他自己是如何从一个来自贫穷家庭的孩子,变身成为人才济济的哈佛商学院一员,又成为全美顶尖的职业经理人,最后创建了以自己名字命名的Ferrazzi Greenlight 营销咨询顾问公司。
宾夕法尼亚州西南部乡村小镇上的一个默默无闻的孩子,父亲是一名钢铁厂的工人,母亲是清洁工。孩子的少年时代为别人做过球童,多么普通的一个家庭和多么平凡的一个孩子,相信大多数人比他的家境要好,平台要高。可是为啥这个叫法拉奇的小孩一步一步走向成功,而我们却没有?看看法拉奇自己讲述的故事吧…
当年幼的法拉奇为富人们背着球杆包走在高尔夫球场上的时候,他亲眼目睹的事情极好地证明了“成功带来新成功,富人会更富有”。那些雇佣球童来求球杆包的富人们,他们不断地发现一个又一个生意,然后为此互相投入时间和金钱。也因此,法拉奇收获了他的第一个认识:“贫穷”绝不仅仅意味着缺钱,它更意味着你没有办法跟那些可以帮助你成功的人有任何联系。
认识到这一点之后,法拉奇决定“培养和建立关系”。而他选择的做法让中国人看来有点“缺心眼”——当你帮助别人的时候,他们常常也帮助你。他认为真正的关系在于想办法让其他人更成功,去努力“付出”而不是“索取”。
“慷慨”让法拉奇的生活发生了变化:你帮助的人越多,你将会得到越多的帮助,然后你就能帮助更多的人。这就像是因特网,越多人访问,使用的人越多,它便越有价值。
看看,这就是我们与法拉奇的不同:我们总以为“关系”是一次性的事物,一旦用过了就不再有,因此,我们要把“关系”留给自己,而不想在其他人的问题上动用某种关系,我们耐心等待,期待在未来的某一天最需要的那一刻用上“关系”。我们认为关系是有限的,就像馅饼,只能被分成几块,拿走一块少一块。而法拉奇认为,关系就像是肌肉,你越使用它,它便越强壮。
另一个故事,法拉奇是用自己的错误论证了应该如何正确建立“人际关系网”。
我们常常在酒会上遇到这样的一个男人或者女人,他们左手拿着一杯酒,右手拿着名片,一张嘴就是早就演练了无数遍的公式化的推销语言。他们蜻蜓点水到处收集名片,对此有异乎寻常的热情…可惜,经验告诉我们,这种人往往不能成功地跟他人建立一种互信的关系。因为,在建立真正的人际关系时,真诚才是最为重要的低一点。
法拉奇在年轻时几乎把所有经典的错误统统实战了一遍,他一门心思去钻营,想所有比自己地位层次更高的人去讨好,同时也完全忽视身边同阶层的人们。往往是在上司面前一副面孔,在下属面前是另一副面孔,对待朋友是迥然不同的第三张面孔。直到有一天,他向一位指导过很多公司CEO的经理人顾问和一位作家朋友询问,如何做才能让自己成为一个伟大的经理人?
对方的回答让法拉奇醍醐灌顶,“工于心计”的人际交往方式早已过时。我们生活在一个可以丰富选择的时代,无论是购买产品还是职业规划。这意味着很多难以相处的同事和领导的“末日”快要来到了。如果什么产品或者服务做得不好时,人们绝对没有必要再将就下去。如果不喜欢所在的公司,或者不喜欢某个上司,可以直接另谋高就。此外,“坏事传千里”在现代社会是非常容易实现的,没有什么坏事可以藏起来不让别人知道。电子邮件、即时通讯工具或者互联网可以让各种消息瞬间传遍每一个角落。因此,一旦被贴上“坏产品”“坏公司”或者素质低下的标签,那么悲惨的未来是可以预见的。
不要闲谈扯皮,不要相信小道消息,无论什么样的活动都不要空手参加,善待那些位不及你的人,做人要直率真诚,不要太过追求高效率…这些都是法拉奇开出的“药方”。
即使是普通人,也有必要读一读这本书,除非你不需要跟任何人接触。一次会议,一次聚餐,甚至是一次偶然联系中,你和对方都可以建立起互惠互利的关系。让法拉奇教你吧
